Olympus Receives Contract With
Premier Healthcare Alliance For
Olympus, a precision technology leader in designing
and delivering innovative Medical and Surgical solu-
tions, among other core businesses, announced that its
THUNDERBEAT Advanced Energy Platform has been
added to the Surgical Energy agreement with Premier.
This award is a result of a "Breakthrough Technology"
process where THUNDERBEAT demonstrated signifi-
cant differentiation to be added to the agreement mid-
stream. The agreement offers specially negotiated pricing
to Premier's alliance of more than 2,800 hospitals and
95,000 providers nationwide.
THUNDERBEAT is the world's only platform that
combines advanced bipolar and ultrasonic energies into
a single multi-functional hand instrument allowing sur-
geons to simultaneously seal and cut vessels up to and
including 7 mm in size with minimal thermal spread.
Additionally, it boasts the fastest cutting speed, delivers
reliable vessel sealing, and provides the highest grasping
forces at the tip when compared to the leading energy
instruments currently on the market.
"We are very excited to be selected by Premier as a
preferred vendor for our THUNDERBEAT Advanced
Energy Platform," said Luke Calcraft, President of the
Medical Systems Group at Olympus Corporation of
the Americas. "THUNDERBEAT eliminates the need
for surgeons to choose between the benefits of bipolar
or ultrasonic energy by combining both energies into a
single, universal system. This helps hospitals meet the
demands of today's healthcare environment by realizing
cost savings while providing quality care."
THUNDERBEAT, when combined with the versatil-
ity of the ESG-400 electrosurgical generator, is the only
platform that delivers every common form of energy used
in surgery today (monopolar, bipolar, ultrasonic, and
advanced bipolar) as well as the revolutionary combina-
tion of advanced bipolar and ultrasonic energies.
THUNDERBEAT was recognized by Premier as a
Breakthrough Innovation Technology and was one of
14 medical innovations on display in front of thousands
of healthcare providers and experts at the Premier
healthcare alliance's 2013 Breakthroughs Conference
and Exhibition. In addition, the technology was show-
cased during the conference's fifth annual Innovation
Celebration that took place on June 11 in San Antonio.
The event recognizes advances in healthcare while high-
lighting industry suppliers committed to innovation and
improving patient outcomes.
Readers have selected the SteriTite universal container and MediTray
inserts from Case Medical as the latest Reader's Choice product.
Q: How do the SteriTite
universal container and
MediTray inserts help
accomplish that task?
A: Case Medical’s Steri Tite con-
tainers and Medi Tray products are
designed for effective sterilization
and efficiency. They are cleared for
all sterilization modalities, elimi-
nating the need for duplicate inventory and specific containers for various sterilizers
and devices. Lids and bases of the container are interchangeable as is the filter reten-
tion plates. The aluminum container system has the best thermo-conductivity for steam
sterilization and the anodized surface provides maximum corrosion resistance over other
brands contributing to a long useful life.
Staff can process instrumentation easily and efficiently. Each component can be assem-
bled and disassembled quickly for decontamination and sterilization. Medi Tray modular
and off the shelf components are the ideal choice for customization and organization for
maximum security and protection of surgical instruments in the set. This means that the
end user's delicate and expensive instrumentation is held securely within the basket and
the organization helps the instrument count process.
Q: How do the containers ensure that the instruments remain sterile
A: Steri Tite container lids have a recessed platinum-cured silicone gasket which cre-
ates a knife-edge seal. Our latching assembly is located on the base of the container and
is designed to clamp down reinforcing the knife-edge seal between lid and base. There
are lift loops located on the lid to facilitate aseptic removal of the lid. The gasketed filter
retention plates have an offset vent pattern, which prevents strike through damage to fil-
ters during use and handling. The Steri Tite container is completely sealed with no gaps,
forcing steam and other sterilants to enter the container through the filtered perforated
vents for maximum sterility maintenance and protection of contents.
Q: Are the containers compatible with all different kinds of steriliza-
A: The Steri Tite container is a truly universal system compatible with all sterilization
processes from steam to H2O2. It is ideal for standardization as no other model or product
on the market meets all requirements for sterilization or compatibility. In fact, the Steri Tite
container was cleared by the FDA for all current sterilization methods and for the steriliza-
tion of full instrument sets including those with endoscopes and power equipment, and for
the containment of orthopedic sets, in multiple layers. The same Steri Tite container can
be used in pre-vacuum steam, gravity displacement steam, EtO, ozone, Steris V-Pro, and
STERRAD Sterilization. Furthermore, the Steri Tite container meets AAMI, AORN, FDA,
and Joint Commission requirements for sealed immediate-use “flash” sterilization.
